This course equips healthcare providers with evidence-based strategies for supporting infants affected by Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome/ Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NOWS/NAS). The course highlights the Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) approach, emphasizing non-pharmacologic care techniques that promote family involvement, reduce NICU stays, and improve outcomes for newborns with substance exposure.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the development and purpose of the Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) approach.

  2. Explain the role and significance of non-pharmacologic care in treating infants with NOWS/NAS.

  3. Identify at least three non-pharmacologic strategies used to support infants with NOWS/NAS.
